The brief
This private commission called for a set of recognition pieces for the chapter’s executive board. Each plaque needed to belong to the same visual family while carrying individualized details. Excalis approached the work as a coordinated series, bringing the overall design and the personalized information together before production.
The challenge
A recognition piece has to balance visual presence with clarity. In a group of 12, the shared form should remain consistent while the individualized details remain central to each recipient’s piece. The plaques also needed a practical way to hang on a wall.
The solution
Excalis presented two design directions, with a pearl-inspired concept selected for development. The final form uses a blue, black, white and silver palette and includes an integrated nail-hanging slot. The structure and display method are part of the object itself.
From concept to a coordinated set
Fusion 360 was used to develop the plaque geometry and individual versions. Production used a Bambu X1C with AMS for multicolor printing, with each plaque taking under nine hours to print. Finishing included deburring and controlled surface cleanup before the completed pieces were prepared as a set.
Keeping design, personalization and fabrication within one workflow allowed the same core geometry to support the full commission while retaining the specific details for each recipient.
The result
The project produced 12 personalized plaques for the 2023–2025 executive board. It demonstrates how a shared design can become a small series of distinct, finished recognition objects.
