FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Answers about working with Excalis, ordering a product and moving an idea through design, prototyping and production.
Working with Excalis
What does Excalis do?
Excalis is a Nashville-based design-to-manufacturing company. We help businesses, organizations and individuals develop physical products through design, prototyping and production.
Do I need a finished design?
No. An idea, sketch, reference or existing object can be a starting point. Share what the finished piece needs to do and any files you already have so we can determine the development work involved.
How is custom work priced?
The estimate depends on the design work, complexity, materials, finish, quantity and intended use. A new design and a small change to an existing product require different scopes. Your project inquiry helps define the work and deliverables before moving forward.
How long will a project take?
Timing depends on the scope, approvals and production approach. Include your target date in the inquiry so it can be discussed before work begins. For shop purchases, use the processing information on the individual product page; production time and shipping transit are separate.
Do I need a discovery call?
More involved projects benefit from a conversation about goals and constraints. A straightforward modification or personalization may be handled by email instead.
Prototyping and production
Can you make a prototype before a production run?
Yes. A physical prototype can help evaluate the design and identify changes before final production. Tell us which details you need to explore and how the prototype will be used.
Can you make more than one?
Excalis supports small-batch work and inquiries for bulk quantities. Include the quantity you need now, any anticipated future runs and your deadline so the production approach can be reviewed.
Which materials can be considered?
Excalis uses PLA+, PETG and flexible TPU for in-house 3D printing and can coordinate other fabrication approaches through partners. The intended use, finish, scale and performance requirements help determine suitable materials.
What finish should I expect from a 3D-printed product?
Layer lines, slight surface texture and minor color variation are normal characteristics of the process. Review the product imagery and description for the design and intended finish.
Ordering, shipping and returns
Where do I add personalization?
Choose the offered option on the product page and supply the requested details during ordering. Check names, dates, spelling and capitalization carefully before submitting.
When will my order ship?
Check the production information for your product and the delivery options at checkout. For a time-sensitive order, contact us before purchasing with the item, quantity and required delivery date.
Can I return a custom product?
Custom and personalized items are generally final sale once work begins. Eligible non-custom items may qualify for return within 14 days of delivery, subject to their condition. Read the full return and refund policy before ordering.
What if an order arrives damaged or has a production error?
Contact info@excalis.co within 3 days of delivery with your order number and clear photos. For damage, include the packaging and shipping label. Excalis will review the issue and the available remedy under its return and refund policy.
Files and project information
Can we discuss confidentiality or an NDA?
Tell us about any confidentiality requirements in your initial inquiry before sending sensitive files. Any required agreement should be reviewed before confidential project information is exchanged.
Who owns the design and manufacturing files?
File delivery, usage rights and ownership should be defined in the project agreement. Tell us if you need editable CAD, manufacturing files or files for another supplier so those deliverables can be addressed in the scope.
What files should I send?
Share the references, dimensions, sketches or existing design files that help explain your goal. Include how the object will be used and what you need to learn or achieve. If a file cannot be uploaded, contact us to arrange the appropriate transfer.
